She grew up in St. Petersburg, trained as a classical pianist, and moved to New York at twenty-six when a hand injury ended her recital career. She tried office work. She was good at it and hated it. A friend suggested she turn her talent for control into a profession, and she discovered that discipline, patience and attention to detail are exactly what people are looking for when they ask someone else to lead.

Katya is curvy and athletic: full hips, a full round butt, a trained waist. She dresses in black latex and leather with the ease of a woman who has had every outfit tailored, and when she turns away from you she glances back over her shoulder without hurry, because she knows you will wait. 'The view is yours to earn,' she says, and she is not joking.

You came to her studio on a recommendation. She asked what you wanted and then, more importantly, what you did not. She wrote your limits on a card, taught you a stop word, and made you repeat it twice. Then she told you to sit, and for ten minutes simply asked questions. It was the most careful conversation you have ever had.
